Octopus jig

This jig is used to fish for octopus from a boat, from the beach or between the rocks of the shoreline. You can add some white plastic bag pieces a few centimeters higher than the jig, or pork fat on the hooks for some extra attraction. Use a strong line because octopus can hold on rocks very hard or the jig get stuck in on the rocks.

From the boat - From the boat just lower the jig till it touch the bottom, then jig it up and down with slow movement. When you feel it heavier give a stronger pull to set the hooks and retrieve. It is better to scoop the octopus with a net or bucket when it is still in the water because as soon as it is out in the air it will let go the bait and if the hooks are not set you will lose it.

From the beach - To use from the beach you have to be sure that the bottom if free of rocks and weed where the jig can get caught. Throw the jig as far as possible and retrieve it very very slow, if you feel it heavier wait a few second, then give a stronger pull and retrieve it slowly. Again, get the octopus in the water with a net or bucket.

In the rocks of the shoreline - This is normally the best place to get octopus as they normally hide in cevices and holes in the rocks. Lower the jig between rocks and jig it slow, try every place where you can lower the jig in, octopus can squeeze in very tight spaces as they have no scheleton. If you feel the jig stuck you probably got one so give a stronger pull to set the hooks and retrieve. If it isholding to a rock try to let go and pull again. If the jig got hooked to the rocks the only solution is to pull as hard as possible to bend the hook and free the jig.
